Northern Michigan Wine Tourism 2026

A Local Guide to Wineries Near The Monarch (Plus a Worthwhile Detour Toward The Dragonfly)

When people think about wine tasting in Northern Michigan, they usually jump straight to Traverse City.

But if you’re staying at The Monarch near Wolverine, you’re actually surrounded by a quieter, more relaxed set of wineries that are easy to get to—and far less crowded.

This is the version of wine tasting that actually feels like a getaway.

Wineries Near The Monarch

These are all real, drivable, and easy to work into a half-day or full-day plan without overthinking it.

Vanderbilt Vines

15 minutes from The Monarch

  • Closest winery to the property
  • Quick, easy stop to start or end your day
  • Relaxed, no-pressure tasting experience

If you’re only doing one stop locally, this is the one that makes the most sense.

Seasons of the North Winery

18 minutes from The Monarch

    • Located right in Indian River
    • Easy to pair with lunch or a quick stop in town
    • Good second stop after Vanderbilt Vines
  • Maple Moon Sugarbush & Winer

    30 minutes from The Monarch

    • Unique stop with maple-based wines and products
    • Feels different from a traditional vineyard
    • Great add-on if you’re heading toward Petoskey
  • Petoskey Farms Vineyard & Winery

    30 minutes from The Monarch

    • One of the more scenic vineyard settings in the area
    • Full vineyard experience (not just a tasting room)
    • Good place to slow down and actually sit for a bit
  • How to Plan Your Wine Day

Keep this simple—this area isn’t meant for rushed itineraries.

    Easy half-day:

    • Vanderbilt Vines
    • Seasons of the North
    • Back to The Monarch for dinner or a fire

    Full but relaxed day:

    • Start local (Vanderbilt or Indian River)
    • Head toward Petoskey
    • Pick 2–3 stops max from:
      • Petoskey Farms
      • Farmhouse Vineyards
      • Maple Moon
      • Crooked Vine

Anything more than that and it stops being enjoyable.

Want a Bigger Wine Scene? Head Toward The Dragonfly

If you’re looking for a more concentrated wine region, you’ll want to head west toward:

    • Central Lake
    • Bellaire
    • Charlevoix

This area has a tighter cluster of wineries and a more traditional tasting route.

👉 If wine tasting is a major part of your trip, it’s worth checking out The Dragonfly Cottage as your home base—or planning a dedicated day trip.

    Wineries Near The Dragonfly

    Cellar 1914

    Torch Lake Cellars

    Folklor Wine & Cider

    Royal Farms Winery & Meadery

These are closer together, easier to route, and better suited if you want to spend a full day winery hopping without much driving between stops.
